Troop Care Packages to Afghanistan

(Hard-copy of this memo is being sent home.)

Dear Parents,

As some of you may be aware, we have a student in K-1 whose father is in the Army on active duty in Afghanistan. I would like to send a care package to him that he can share with his entire unit. The rest of the faculty/staff also want to be included in this gift so we are hoping for a wonderful collection .

Care packages are thoughtful ways to support our troops. They enhance the morale and well-being of our deployed soldiers by shipping these gifts directly to the front lines. This is especially important during the holidays when they are missing their families the most. These men and women are so far from home and truly appreciate the graciousness of others.

Please be aware that we want to ship these care packages in time for the soldiers to receive them by Christmas. After shipping them, we have to allow for travel time, going through customs and then a search once they arrive at the base.

THE DUE DATE FOR ALL CONTRIBUTIONS IS MONDAY, NOV.27TH

Here are some things I would like the class to do… .

1. Older grades can write cards to the soldiers either at home or in class. Please help your younger child make a card for the soldiers at home. You can take a piece of construction paper and fold it in half. On the front they can draw a picture and inside they can write a few words such as… Dear Soldier, Thank you for keeping us safe . Do you see camels there? Or I think you are very brave. You are my hero. Love,.. . . If they can’t write it, you can write it for them but use their own words and have them sign it themselves. The soldiers LOVE to read the little sweet silly thing kids ask/say.

2. We are collecting many items to fill up our care packages. We ask for your contributions from the list below.

Please give what you can and end in the items as soon as you get them so that they can be sorted out and we can determine what is still needed.

God bless you for your generosity.

Sincerely,
Ms.Giunta
