On Thursday, 9 February, St. Francis Prep will be hosting a screening of the hour-long film The Sultan and the Saint. This film depicts the historic meeting between St. Francis of Assisi and Sultan Malik al-Kamil of Egypt during the Fifth Crusade in 1219. This encounter took place at the height of the bloody and violent Crusades. In the midst of this war and time of mutual suspicion, these two men of different faiths met in peaceful dialogue.
We are showing the film in the spirit of mutual respect and understanding. We are inviting students, parents and guardians, alumni, and members of local Muslim communities. This is a great opportunity for us to continue in our Franciscan tradition of being living instruments of peace.
The evening begins at 7:00 p.m. There will be refreshments in the East Lobby. The film will be shown in the Br. Ralph Clifford Memorial Auditorium. We will have brief introductions at the beginning and an opportunity for a short discussion at the end of the film. The program will conclude by 9:00 p.m.
I write to invite you, your family members, and anyone you think might be interested to join us for this film. We hope it will be a great opportunity to promote peace and understanding.
