The Chromebook
A Chromebook is a new type of personal computer running the Google Chrome OS, an operating system (like Windows or Mac OS). This device has some offline capabilities, but it is primarily designed to be used while connected to the Internet. Chromebooks utilize web applications and cloud storage. The web applications allow the device to quickly boot upon system startup. Chromebooks do have an internal hard drive where documents can also be saved and USB peripheral devices such as a wireless mouse or a flash drive can be connected. However, students will not be able to install software or run executable files.
The purpose of Project Chromebook at St. Nicholas of Tolentine Catholic Academy is to empower our students to become fully active participants in our global technology driven society. Through Project Chromebook, students will acquire technological and critical thinking skills enabling them to compete in the growing, fast paced, and rapidly changing world economy. Chromebooks are perfect for sharing, students can share a single device, but still have a personal experience just by signing in.

Project Chromebook enhances:
Access to digital educational resources
Individualized learning
Creativity and innovation
Critical thinking and problem solving
Communication and collaboration
Technology literacy skills
College and career readiness

Chromebooks for Education give students, teachers, and administrators a simple solution for fast, intuitive, and easy-to-manage computing. Chromebooks provide access to the web’s education and collaboration resources, as well as offer centralized management and low total cost of ownership. For Project Chromebook, we will use monies earned through our shopping links to purchase individual Chromebooks to be used in daily instruction. We believe so strongly in the benefits of utilizing Chromebooks in daily instruction and are confident that you share this view as well.
